Things to do Around the Maha Kumbh Mela

When you are camped at the Mela there is so much to see and do. Each day when you go searching for spiritual enlightenment, you will find there is a new lesson of around every corner. Some of the camps have big music or dance performances going on, while others have a great teachers that are discussing the many aspects of their doctrine. As you go from camp to camp you will meet many people who can suggest spiritual paths or techniques and they may know of other spiritual teachers in the mela that you can visit. After a couple of weeks you may get to know how spread out the mela is.

No visit to the mela is complete without a dip in the Ganges River. The most ideal place for taking your dip is at the confluence of the three rivers. You can walk in from the shore or hire a boat to take you to the many platforms that are built near the shore. You may wish to higher a priest to assist you with the rituals, they will charge a small fee and provide you with coconuts and instructions. You should agree on the fee before they began.

Visiting and the Naga babas can be lots of fun. Don't expect them to speak perfect English, but you may be invited to join in their smoking rituals around the fire. There is an ancient feeling being with such a simple and unpretentious people. So pure and so open they have no possessions, so they have all the freedom.
